'n Vaas is 'n hol houer, gewoonlik hoog in verhouding tot sy horisontale deursnee. Dit word hoofsaaklik vir dekoratiewe doeleindes gebruik. Dit kan van 'n aantal materiale vervaardig word, soos keramiek, glas, nie-roesende metale, soos aluminium, koper, brons of vlekvryestaal. Selfs hout is gebruik om vase te maak, hetsy deur boomspesies te gebruik wat natuurlik teen vrot weerstand bied, soos kiaat, of deur 'n beskermende deklaag op konvensionele hout toe te pas. Vase word dikwels versier, en dit word gereeld gebruik om snyblomme te hou.

Vase het oor die algemeen 'n soortgelyke vorm. Die voet of basis kan bolvormig, plat, karinaat[1] wees of 'n ander vorm hê. Die liggaam vorm die hoofgedeelte van die stuk. Sommige vase het 'n skouer, waar die liggaam binnetoe buig, 'n nek wat hoogte gee, en 'n lip, waar die vaas weer buitetoe uitvlam. Sommige vase het ook handvatsels.
