Moldawies (limba moldovenească, лимба молдовеняскэ) is 'n ander naam vir Roemeens.[2] Dit was tydens die Sowjetunie en vanaf 1994 tot 2013 die amptelike naam vir die Roemeense taal as amptelike taal van Moldowa.[3][4] Die van die Moldawiërs gebruikte omgangstaal verskil van die in die Roemeense streek Moldau gebruikte s'n net effens, hoofsaaklik deur neologisme wat uit Russies oorgeneem is. In die westelike streek van Roemenië is leenwoorde hoofsaaklik uit Frans oorgeneem.

Verspreiding van Roemeense dialekte in Roemenië en Moldowa

In die omstrede gebied Transnistrië is Moldawies (geskryf met die Cyrilliese alfabet) die amptelike taal, maar saam met Russies en Oekraïens. In Gagaoesië is naas Roemeens ook Gagaoesies en Russies amptelike tale.
