Joseph Heinrich Beuys [ˈjoːzɛf ˈbɔʏs] (* 12 Mei 1921 in Krefeld; † 23 Januarie 1986 in Düsseldorf) was 'n Duitse aksiekunstenaar, beeldhouer, tekenaar, kunsteoretikus en professor aan die Kunstakademie Düsseldorf.

Sy omvangryke werk is gegrond op humanistiese, sosiaal-filosofiese en antroposofiese beginsels en het sy hoogtepunt in Beuys se "uitgebreide definisie van kuns" en sy konsep van "sosiale beeldhouwerke" as Gesamtkunstwerk of algehele kunswerk bereik waarmee Beuys in die laat 1970's samelewing en politiek op 'n kreatiewe manier wou beïnvloed. Gedurende sy leeftyd is vurige debatte oor sy kuns gevoer, maar tans word hy as een van die beduidendste kunstenaars van die tweede helfte van die 20ste eeu beskryf en as "ideaaltipiese teenspeler" van Andy Warhol beskou.[1]
