Jack Brymer

John (Jack) Alexander Brymer (27 Januarie 1915 – 15 September 2003) was 'n Engelse klarinettis. The Times het hom "die voorste klarinettis van sy generasie, miskien van die eeu" genoem.[1] Hy was as speler grootliks selfgeleer en het as amateur opgetree voordat hy deur Thomas Beecham uitgenooi is om in 1947 by die Koninklike Filharmoniese Orkes aan te sluit. Hy het tot 1963 by die orkes gebly, te wete twee jaar na Beecham se dood.

Brymer het later in die BBC Simfonieorkes en London Simfonieorkes gespeel. Hy was ook geassosieer met verskeie kamermusiek ensembles en het 'n lewenslange behae daarin gehad om jazz te speel. Hy het van die tydperk van 1950 tot 1993 verskeie professorale poste gehou, eerste by die Koninklike Akademie van Musiek, daarna by die Koninklike Militêre Skool van Musiek, en uiteindelik by die Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Hy het dikwels as beide speler en aanbieder uitsendings gemaak, en opnames van solo-werke, sowel as werke saam met orkeste en kleiner groepe gemaak. Hy het twee volumes memoires en 'n boek oor die klarinet gepubliseer.
