Die Heterokonta (ook: Stramenopiles) is 'n tak (superfilum) van die Harosa wat gekenmerk word deur die besit van een 'harige' en een 'gladde' flagellum. Hulle is soms eensellig en lyk dikwels soos alge, maar daar is ook vorme wat baie soos swamme lyk. Hierdie groep bestaan uit 'n aantal subgroepe:^[9]

Ochrophyta
- Die diatome -fotosintetiese alge met 'n wand van kiesel.
- Die goue alge -- wat ander kleurstowwe as chlorofil vir fotosintese gebruik.
- Die bruin alge -- hulle kan baie groot word, soos kelp
Oomycota
- Die waterswamme (Oomycetes) wat lank as swamme gesien is maar nie aan hulle verwant is nie; 'n belangrike verteenwoordiger is Phytophthora wat laatroes by aartappels veroorsaak.
