Die becquerrel is die SI eenheid vir die aktiwiteit van 'n radio-aktiwiteit en het die simbool "Bq". Die naam "becquerel" is in 1975 deur die BIPM te ere van die Franse fisikus Henri Becquerel toegeken. Dit is gedefinieer as die gemiddelde aantal radio-aktiewe disintegrasies per sekonde. Dus het die becquerel die dimensie s-1. Al is hierdie dimensie dieselfde as die dimensie van die SI-eenheid vir frekwensie, die hertz, word die eenheid "hertz" gebruik om gereelde gebeurtenisse te meet, maar 'n radio-aktiewe disintegrasie is 'n ewekansige gebeurtenis.[1][2][3][4][4][5][6][7]
