Arsenopiriet (ook arseenpiriet) is 'n mineraal met formule FeAsS.[1]

Arsenopiriet is veral belangrik omdat dit dikwels saam met goud aangetref word. Ná sulfiede is arsenopiriet die tweede gasheermineraal vir goud. Arsenopiriet met 'n goudgehalte tot 15 200g/t is in Villerange in Frankryk gevind.[2] Daar word dikwels gepraat van 'onsigbare goud' omdat dit dalk in die arsenopiriet self opgelos of as goud-nanodeeltjie in die mineraal ingeslote is.

Navorsing met Mössbauerspektroskopie en met XANES het getoon dat goud waarskynlik opgelos in arsenopirie teenwoordig is en daar kovalent gebonde is. Dit is nogtans moeilik om te bepaal watter oksidasietoestand die opgeloste goudatome besit.[3] Die oksidasietoestand 3+ kan nogtans uitgesluit word en hulle vervang dalk die ysteratome.

Kristalstruktuur

Die struktuur van arsenopiriet is verwant aan markasiet s'n. Pleks van S2−2-anioonpare het dit AsS3−-pare en die simmetrie is laer. Die ysteratome het drie As-bure en drie S-bure in 'n effens vervormde oktaëdriese omringing. Die arsenopirietstruktuur is die argetipe van die strukturbericht-klassifikasie se E07-struktuur.[4]
